Very important during the Open Mat, where the rolls are usually more aggressive than during a normal training session since there are several teams that share the mat and with it rivalry is always shown. I always recommend the Open Mat as an initiation to the competition, since normally it will be shot with people you do not know, so the feeling of tranquility and confidence disappears.   Open Mat Casa de Luta Saarbrücken As usual, every Saturday Open Mat in Casa de Luta Saarbrücken , with the visit of different gyms from all around Germany and France. Today we had again the visit of Pierre Manzo and Mraz Avdoyan,  the two active high-level competitors,  as well as some students from the academy of Luta Livre Ballterrier Saarbrücken. A hard training morning due to the high temperatures in the last days, and the high level of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu of the participants. Today's training started at 11:00 a.m. and finished at 14:00 p.m., 4 exhaustive hours of hard rolls, which I still feel right now, sitting on my terrace hours after the training, where I write this post, as if a heavy truck had passed over my body. Luckily we have the whole Sunday to recover. As a every Saturday at Casa de Luta and as the last training day of the week leaving Sunday to rest, we push our bodies to the limit from 11:00 till 13:00. In this training session before rolling with each other, we have an hour of rounds with the other visitors as a warm up. On this day we had the visit of Svilen, a very technical and strong fighter, winner of the ADCC Trials. It must be remembered that these training sessions serve as preparation months before an important Jiu Jitsu tournament or MMA fight, so the intensity is gradual, and not 100% as it would be a month before any event, where the intensity is very high and with shorter rounds.  Polaris and Grapplefest vet, British grappler, coach, and black belt judoka Owen Livesey has recently been promoted to black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Livesey trains out of Carlson Gracie Hull, which he owns, and was promoted to black belt by 5th degree black belt Carlson Gracie Jr. With a background of competitive judo, Livesey always puts on a great show, bringing us all the throws. Livesey competed in judo at an international level at black belt for Great Britain and England and won the gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Livesey is a 2nd dan black belt in judo, gaining his 1st dan at the age of 16.   Below is a video where I show a transition that I usually apply against opponents with a good defense on the outside heelhook. Abel Simon (abelbjj) and Pierre Manzo Unforgettable Jiu Jitsu Friday Marathon with my good friend and Jiu Jitsu black belt Pierre Manzo at Casa De Luta Saarbrücken . A full day of Jiu Jitsu, where we got to lose 4 kilos at the end of the day during the Gi and Nogi Rolls Sessions. We started early in the morning, with an hour of technique, where I was teaching in depth different leglock entries from the arm drag position from buterfly, and then 2 hours of hard Open Mat. We went to lunch, and to rest for an hour, when we came back we put on the Gi's and trained for an hour. Then Pierre started the Only Women's BJJ class, showing sweeps from closed guard, with some very interesting details. After that, we started the next mixed Jiu Jitsu class, and then another two hours of hard Open Mat. Last night, Noah, had a Superfight at the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Roll Up 5 event, in France (Paris), where he became champion by submitting his opponent in 3:15 via leglock.    The Roll up is the first (and only) event of GRAPPLING in France, gathering 20 fighters under the form " Submission Only ". 10 minutes of fight during which there are no points scored only the finalization gives the victory.   Abel Simon (abelbjj) and Meraz Avdoyan Mraz Avdoyan was born in Armenia and his ethnicity is Yezidi. 2019 ADCC European Champion and current Ares Fighting Championship Fighter, lives in Kaiserslautern, Germany and grapples at Matrix BJJ Kaiserlautern with Rene Becker and MMA coach Tabeth Aga. Every Saturday Meraz visits  Casa De Luta Saarbrücken  to complete his trainings and preparation for his upcoming fights with Abel Simon (abelbjj). However, he was 20 when he first started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and mentions his entry into the world of grappling:  “Once I met a bodybuilder guy with my friend in our gym. He talked about BJJ, and I thought it is something like Aikido. So we got into a bet with my mate. He said if I will do more chin ups you go to try BJJ. So l lost the bet and went to try it.
