  Owen Livesey faced Josh Hinger last Saturday 24th at Polaris 21, in a 10 minute match where Owen completely dominated on the stand with his Judo For Nogi, with some very clean and technical sweeps that took Josh Hinger to the ground in each attempt. The fight on the ground was a battle between these two great fighters, Owen tried to pass Josh's guard at all times, applying his now famous body locks, smash side pass and Over Under, we could even see some attentive with Ashi Garami that surprised us all. Josh Hinger defended at all times every pass attempt, demonstrating his high technical level and experience, but at the same time, leaving the decision of the judges more towards Owen's side due to more activity in the attacks and not playing so defensive. Laila Ohlhoof is a purple belt under Felipe Cancado and Alex Fialho. She trains at Fenriz Gym (Gracie Academy Berlin, and she´s part of the German Grappling National Team, -64kg.  On the training of yesterday we had as  a warm uo a HIT Workout to learn how to push yourself over your own limits. After that we was focus on how to play your own best game with your most favorties techniques. The quests have been put in a way, where you could choose your favourite techniques to start the fight. The focus in Lailas class was put on Wrestling and how to escape a back Mount. Our techniques have been put on a test in Shark Tanks, so the physical part of the competition was trained as well. Laila emphsized, that pushing yourself to your own limits and wanting it "a bit more" than your opponent in the competition is crucial for compeeting successfully.   Owen Livesey is a British judo athlete, Carlson Gracie black belt, and an absolute monster on his feet. This guy has won multiple titles in judo making him the perfect candidate to teach you how to  “Just Stand Up” . On his second day of the Seminar, Owen showed us some of his ground game, some of his favorite passages, controls and submissions. I can only tell you one thing, Owen has given me another point of view in Jiu Jitsu, reinforcing parts of my game where I didn't feel totally confident.  If you can organize a seminar in your academy, I absolutely recommend it, and if not, you can always purchase some of his DVD's already available at The Grapplers Club or BJJ Fanatics .   Match Announcement  3-time Nogi World Champion Josh Hinger is set to make his Polaris debut against one of the most exciting prospects in UK grappling. Hinger holds wins over some of the biggest names in the sport but Owen Livesey will be hoping to spoil the American's debut. Livesey is unbeaten on the Polaris mats and will be looking to continue his run of viral highlight reel moments. Polaris Grapple Island goes down on September 24th in Sardinia.   Unfortunately for the Brazilian, Costa was unable to work through some visa issues and was not able to compete in Las Vegas. This is what caused the space in the under 99kg division to re-open and  the Englishman Owen Livesey had already been confirmed as the official alternate for that division . Livesey is a multi-sport athlete and a lifelong grappler who comes from a family of Judo black belts who have competed at the highest levels of the sport. Although Livesey was a Judo black belt at the age of 16, he originally pursued an athletic career playing rugby league instead. He returned to Judo shortly after and competed in the 2014 Commonwealth games where he won a gold medal in the 81kg division. He continued to compete in the sport before deciding to transition to Jiu-Jitsu, winning the British title in 2013, 2014, and finally in 2017.   Lucas Gugnon Lucas Gugnon is a recent purple belt under Abel Simon ( abelbjj ), black belt in Judo and instructor of Judo For Nogi at Casa De Luta Saarbrücken .   We have just arrived from Naga Luxembourg Grappling with a result that I am very proud of. We started a year ago with Casa De Luta Saarbrücken , and I only have words with which to express pride and gratitute. Get on the mats and compete against large, experienced teams and emerge victorious. I have no words...  After some tough battles, we managed to bring home 4 belts, 7 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 1 bronze medal, finishing among the top ten teams  with a total of 22 wins. I would like to thank Owen Livesey for his training camp a few weeks ago at Casa De Luta Saarbrücken, where he was educating us in the art of Judo For Nogi and Wrestling, and where we were able to put it to the test with very positive results at Naga Luxembourg Grappling.   Breaking!! Owen Livesey steps in for Luccas Lira in the -99kg  Division 💪 Polaris and Grapplefest vet, British grappler, coach, and black belt judoka and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Carlson Gracie Jr.  With a background of competitive judo, Livesey always puts on a great show, bringing us all the throws. Livesey competed in judo at an international level at black belt for Great Britain and England and won the gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Livesey is a 2nd dan black belt in judo, gaining his 1st dan at the age of 16. Owen Livesey was a few weeks ago in Casa De Luta Saarbrücken, where he spent four days and in two of them he held a seminar showing his fantastic skills in Wrestling and Judo, and where one himself, had the opportunity to be training with him during those 4 days.
