Nate Diaz trains with Jean Jacques Machado

UFC superstar Nate Diaz trains with jiu-jitsu master Jean Jacques Machado ahead of his rumored fight against Dustin Poirier

One of the most important reasons why Nate Diaz has developed such a cult following is because he has stayed true to his roots. Nate started training jiu-jitsu under Cesar Gracie and never fails to give credits to his team, whenever he gets the opportunity.

A third degree black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu himself, Diaz trains with the likes of Kron Gracie [one of the greatest jiu-jitsu competitors of all time] on a regular basis. He even gives back to the jiu-jitsu community by organizing seminars and workshops across the USA.

Jean Jacques Machado, a master of the art, recently posted a picture of him post training with the Stockton slugger. He captioned the post, ‘ It was great to see you @natediaz209 🥋

Machado is famously known to be the instructor of world-renowned podcaster Joe Rogan, and founder of 10th Planet jiu-jitsu, Eddie Bravo. Tony Ferguson is one of the most familiar faces to train out of 10th Planet. Machado is a student of Rickson Gracie, the youngest red belt in jiu-jitsu [highest degree ranking widely regarded as grandmaster]

Comedian Shane Gillis shares a hillarious story involving Nate Diaz and Marvin Vettori in a street fight

Former SNL comedian Shane Gillis took some time out to hang out with his favorite athlete Nate Diaz and his crew after one of his shows. Gillis, a 34 year stand up comedian, radio personality and podcaster was awestruck when he met Diaz and recounted a funny incident involving the Stockton superstar.

He said, “Bro….Bro… Nobody on earth is better than Nate Diaz. So I did a show with Rogan, Rogan brought me out there. We did Irvine again but he had to do UFC at Anaheim the next day. Bro… I love Nate Diaz so much. This is my only chance to hang out with him. He’s the nicest dude ever. I walked in and it was him shotgunning a fking seltzer. As soon as I walked in he said ‘get that motherfker one also.”

He went on to add, “We walked outside and he front kicked a stranger. Got into a fight we a stranger immediately. Everybody that comes up, like lets get a picture, (Diaz) says ‘yea f*ck you’. And one dude walked up that was jacked. And Nate Diaz was immediately ‘you want to run up on us?’ As soon as Nate called him out the dude is like ‘whats up’, Diaz is like ‘whats up’. Nate connected on this dudes hip and he just flew everywhere.

Pierre Manzo and Arthur Leroy from Jiu Jitsu Family at Casa de Luta Saarbrücken

Yesterday, Saturday, we had the visit of our brother and good friend, Pierre Manzo , black belt under Robert Drysdale , and Head Coach at Jiu Jitsu Family. Along with him, one of his students, a talented 20 year old monster, who has been training already, in teams like the B-Team in Texas with Craig Jones, Nick Rodriguez, Nicky Ryan, Oliver Taza, etc..    The Open Mat started as usual at Casa de Luta Saarbrücken at 11:00, where every team is welcome and completely free of charge. Pierre and I got together for more than an hour where we were able to kill each other and exchange knowledge during the rolls, as well as help him with the mechanics of some of my leglocks. I also had the opportunity to roll with Arthur, Pierre's talented young student, a very technical guy with great precision on his attacks, with very good guard passes to back take, dangerous! Very dangerous. So I had to be careful with my leg attacks, avoiding at all times exposing my back by actively changing positi

BJJ SAARBRÜCKEN: Trivium’s Matt Heafy “BJJ is a way of life”

Matt Kiichi Heafy  is one the many rock stars bitten by the Brazilian jiu-jitsu bug. The 31-year-old lead singer and guitarist for the heavy metal band Trivium has been training BJJ since 2013 (ten years after the band’s first album), and he has developed such a fondness for the Gracie art that he brings a trainer and a set of mats around with him on tour. Even if you’re not a heavy metal fan, you’re probably familiar with Matt Heafy. Last year, our very own Emil Fischer  sat down with him  to talk about his love of Brazil’s soft art. Yesterday afternoon, Emil once again sat down with Heafy, who’s now a two-stripe purple belt. This time, though, I had the pleasure of joining in. The three of us talked about leg locks and Heafy’s love for Eddie Cummings’ style, a style which Matt sadly feels he has inadequately replicated. He even went so far as to apologize to Cummings for it. He also found out that for Matt Heafy, the saying “BJJ is a way of life” is more than just a cliche.  Brazil
