Marcus Buchecha's MMA debut rescheduled for September
Jiu-Jitsu legend Marcus "Buchecha" Almeida has a new date to debut in MMA. The fighter from São Paulo, hired by ONE Championship, should make his first fight in the organization and in the sport on September 24, in Singapore, against the Norwegian Thomas Narmo.
The news was first reported by the website "MMA Fighting". Buchecha already had two dates announced by ONE in April, but his fights against Oumar Kane and Ji Won Kang were cancelled. Now, he is pitted against a 27-year-old Norwegian who is undefeated in MMA with four wins and one "No Contest" (fight without a result).
Marcus Buchecha, 31, is considered one of the best jiu-jitsu fighters of all time. He has compiled 13 gold medals at the World Jiu-Jitsu Championships at black belt, including six years in which he won both his weight and absolute category, and two titles at the ADCC World Championships, one of the most prestigious grappling tournaments in the world. According to the "BJJ Heroes" website, Buchecha has won 138 fights and lost only 14 in jiu-jitsu.
He has been training at American Top Team, but also assisted Daniel Cormier at the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) last year.
