Demian Maia On Why He Doesn’t Ground & Pound in MMA

 

I think my background is very much jiu-jitsu, so I usually always look for control and submission. It is my style, and something that still I have to improve. In this martial art that we love so much, we try not to hurt our opponent, but to submit him. Of course I am there to win, I have to do whatever I need to do, but this is so ingrained in me that I will always seek for the submission. I will hardly worry more about hurting than submitting. This is part of Jiu-Jitsu, which is why it is the best martial art in the world.
